The summer heat in Iga is unrelenting. You can, however, see colorful fireworks displays that illuminate the night sky with color and fantastic scenery of dancing fireflies that will make you forget all about the heat. Lotuses wet with the morning dew have a mysterious air, and the sunlight filtering through the swaying maple leaves creates a cool impression.

Shirafuji Falls, known for its beautiful autumn foliage, is also a great place to see lovely green Japanese maple trees. The temperature at the foot of the waterfall, which is rich with negative ions, is lower than the surrounding area, making it a perfect spot for cooling off. *Please take appropriate caution when walking on the path to the waterfall, as moss on the path can be slippery.

The climb from the parking lot is worth the breathtaking views from the observation deck, where you can see Ueno Castle and Mt. Reizan in the distance. The park offers a variety of seasonal sights, including cherry blossoms, azaleas, green Japanese maple trees, and hydrangeas. You can also find ten monuments engraved with poetry dedicated to haiku master Matsuo Basho throughout the park.

Theory has it that this temple served as a model for the reconstruction of the Great Buddha Hall of Todaiji Temple. When the hydrangeas pass their peak, the lotuses then begin to bloom. They tend to wilt around 10:00 in the morning.

At the Yoimiya (Preparation Night) Festival, after the fireworks display is over, lanterns are brought in from the 11 parishioners’ districts, and the Kugatachi ritual is performed as a prayer for bountiful harvests and good health. At the Gion Festival the following day, children's dances and a Hanagasa ritual (Uchiwa-tori) are performed.

The Ueki Shrine Gion Festival consists of two parts, the Yoimiya (Preparation Night) Festival and the Main Festival. This spectacular event features processions of portable shrines and Danjiri floats, as well as Gion Flowers. The majestic procession of portable shrines and lavish Danjiri floats is truly a sight to behold. Two portable shrines and three Danjiri floats make their way along the old Kaido road to Ueki Shrine, praying for bountiful harvests. The portable shrines and Danjiri floats are more than 400 years old.
