Iga retains a vast natural world that changes appearance with the seasons. Here's a collection of the highlights for each season.

Spring

Spring is the season of new beginnings. It is also the season for rice planting in the mountain villages that dot the area as well as festivals to pray for rain and bountiful harvests. The mild weather makes it easy to take part in traditional events such as viewing cherry blossoms, peonies, and azaleas.

Summer

The summer heat in Iga is unrelenting. You can, however, see colorful fireworks displays that illuminate the night sky with color and fantastic scenery of dancing fireflies that will make you forget all about the heat. Lotuses wet with the morning dew have a mysterious air, and the sunlight filtering through the swaying maple leaves creates a cool impression.

Autumn

Autumn, when the golden ears of rice sway in the breeze. The Ueno Tenjin Festival, with its procession of Danjiri floats and demons, and the Basho Festival in Basho’s hometown of Iga offer a delightful taste of culture and tradition. Enjoy the beautiful scenery in autumn, with golden pampas grass illuminated by the setting sun and fallen maple leaves adorning your path like a red carpet.

Winter

A coat of frost covers the mountain villages in winter. Enjoy unique winter events such as illumination shows that light up the night sky, and Shushoe, a festival that heralds the arrival of spring. There are also lovely sceneries to take in, such as the highland plateau and its hoarfrost-covered trees, creating a world of fantasy, as well as fragrant plum tree blossoms that break through the harsh cold.
