Iga Railway trains featuring decorative wrapping designed by Leiji Matsumoto, a manga artist best known for works such as Galaxy Express 999 and Space Battleship Yamato.
The Ninja Train was first introduced in December 2009 in blue and pink, with green added in March of 2012. The blue Ninja Train has even been signed by Leiji Matsumoto.
The interiors of the train cars are elaborately decorated as well with accents such as throwing star-patterned curtains, and, in the blue and pink trains, lots of other fun flourishes like doors where ninjas appear and disappear and lighting patterned after throwing stars.
Since 2016, the green Ninja Train has also played a role in teaching the value of wood, featuring walls, decorations, and handles made with cedar and maple grown in Mie Prefecture. Feel firsthand the warmth of wood when you ride this train.
